Right to be forgotten: A statement by Mr. Antonello Soro, President of the Italian DPA, on the Google decision by the EU Court of Justice

‘One will have to carefully ponder the reasoning underlying the Court’s decision, which unquestionably impacts the full enforcement of the right to be forgotten.

In a world that is structurally interconnected and faced with the immaterial reality of the Net, territorial barriers appear increasingly obsolete. The commitment of EU DPAs towards safeguarding this right globally, on a par with the protection afforded in the EU, makes all the more sense.

The reconciliation between right to information and personal dignity as achieved in the EU partly thanks to the rules on the right to be forgotten should become a world-wide standard.’
